The Good, The Bad & The Queen Share New Single, “Gun to the Head”

Brit-rock supergroup The Good, The Bad & The Queen have shared “Gun to the Head,” along with an accompanying music video. “Gun to the Head” is the second single from their forthcoming album Merrie Land, out Nov. 16.

“Gun to the Head” is similar to lead single “Merrie Land” in both sound and visuals. Damon Albarn and company seem to have found inspiration in taking the simple melodies of ‘50s beat music and warping them into off-kilter, sideways-sloping pop songs. The track feels a bit like carnival music, if the carnival had been submerged in floodwaters, or like show tunes performed by the Chuck E. Cheese animatronic band.

The video heightens the theatrical mood. Albarn is once again back in marionette drag, this time alone on a dark stage. Times are dire, clearly. A press release describes the band’s new album as a “good-bye letter, a series of observations and reflections on Britishness in 2018.” What this puppetry has to do with that is anyone’s guess.

The band has added three “warm-up” tour dates to their previously announced shows. Those dates can be found below, beneath the video for “Gun to the Head.”
