The Highwomen shared their eponymous new song on Tuesday. “Highwomen” is the third track released from their forthcoming debut self-titled album, out Sept. 6. via Low Country Sound/Elektra Records.
The country supergroup and collaborative movement, composed of Maren Morris, Brandi Carlisle, Amanda Shires and Natalie Hemby, previously released two singles, “Redesigning Women” and “Crowded Table” last month.
The new track was written by Jimmy Webb, Shires and Carlile, and features contributions from Shires, Carlile, Hemby and Morris, along with special guests Yola and Sheryl Crow.
Impeccable harmonies between the singers, delicate acoustic guitar fingerpicking, and lyrics centered around women’s empowerment and resilience make “Highwomen” an unforgettable offering from the trending group.
“We are the highwomen,” they sing on their self-titled single, “We are the daughters of the silent generations / You send our hearts to die alone in foreign nations.”
As the song reaches its end, they boldly continue, “They may return to us as tiny drops of rain / but we will still remain / and we’ll come back again and again and again.”
