The National to Curate Homecoming Festival, Share Technicolor Video for “Sleep Well Beast”

The National’s Grammy-nominated Sleep Well Beast came out in September, and they just wrapped up their extensive 2017 world tour in support of the album. They have a couple more shows to play in the new year, with more 2018 dates to be announced, and soon, they’ll be sleeping well when they return to Cincinnati—but before Matt Berninger and company get some much-deserved rest, they’ll be curating and headlining a festival in the city to commemorate their homecoming next spring.

Homecoming, in association with guitarist Bryce Dessner’s MusicNOW festival, will feature over 20 performers across two stages in Smale Park, and The National is scheduled to play two unique shows both evenings of the event, which takes place April 28-29, 2018. There will also be additional exhibitions highlighting art and cultural connections across the city the night before, April 27.

Along with the festival announcement, the band also released the video for the title track of their album, “Sleep Well Beast.” Like a handful of their previous videos from the album, the visual was directed by Casey Reas, with photography from Graham MacIndoe, and features technicolor images of city streets and portraits of the band members, layered and shifting over various geometric shapes.

Watch the visual below. Passes for Homecoming go on sale tomorrow, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. local time, and you can purchase them here. The full line-up has yet to be announced but is expected early next year, so stay tuned. In the meantime, listen to The National’s 2007 Daytrotter Session underneath the video for Sleep Well Beast’s title track, and revisit our review of the album here.
