Liverpool’s The Night Café dropped their sophomore EP Bunkbed today, July 6. It features two new tracks, along with the previously released singles “Felicity” and “Turn”—both of which debuted in 2017, so the quartet’s full EP has been long awaited. The mix of singles (including “Mixed Signals”) and first EP Get Away from the Feeling aligned the group with the dominant sound of young rock bands coming out of the U.K. right now (see: The Hunna or The Amazons). Bunkbed follows the same path The Night Café have paved before with slow-cruising, guitar-dominated tracks.

The final track on the EP, “Forget It All,” makes an abrupt entrance after the other previously unheard song, “I’m Fine.” Rather than fading in at the end of “I’m Fine,” “Forget It All” crashes in with the drum kit at the outset, sounding more like a delayed final cheer for the prior track, rather than a beginning tone. A false start, the instrument levels diminish and are interlaced with indistinguishable words pulled out of a staticky phone call. Then the song takes its real starting leap as the same beginning bang kicks in, joined by a faster guitar. “It’s plain to see that sometimes you forget just where you’re going, so stick with me and then forget it all,” the lyrics begin. “Forget It All” encourages going by feeling, rather than acting according to formulated plans—something the band exemplifies in this song’s atypical start. The song ends with 20 seconds of feedback slowly dying out, the pause of silence refreshing listeners before they’re looped back in for a replay.

The Night Café has toured with the likes of The Wombats and Blaenavon, and will be hitting the road again in the U.K. this fall for their biggest shows to date. Listen to “Forget it All” below and find full tour dates for The Night Café further down. You can stream the rest of Bunkbed here.
