The Oarsman lead singer Marcus Christopher Maloney sings, “Have you learned to come to terms with forever,” and it reminds me tonight that there’s not a candle long enough in the world. We could be sad, but it would be misplaced. He sings about life being a landslide and we are always feeling it slipping. We are always sensing that everything’s slipping from us, even as it’s gracing us and giving us everything it was ever told it had to give, which is very little.

Oarsman songs are about the slightest of moves that people make, that the rest of the world make that will all make up something significant when it’s all come to pass. They are the pots of dirt with a seed planted and expectations through the roof, but you’re just doing when you can, not to kill it before it has a good, long, life. You try not to water it too much or too little – just right.
