It’s been 12 years since Tom Higgenson asked Delilah what it was like in New York City. In all that time, we never did get an answer, but Plain White T’s are giving us a scripted TV series based on their hit single “Hey There Delilah” as reconciliation for leaving us hanging.

As first reported by THR, the band is turning their song into a romantic comedy about a long-distance relationship. They’ve joined forces with Lively McCabe Entertainment and Primary Wave, and will be pitching the series to networks and studios this month. Higgenson developed the concept for the show with musical theatre book writer and lyricist Jeremy Desmon, who will write the script for the show.

“It’s been more than a decade since ‘Hey There Delilah’ was released, and people always ask me about it. A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I’m very proud of that,” said Higgenson in a statement. “I’m so excited to have an opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project.”

“Hey There Delilah” was certified platinum in 2007 and earned the band two Grammy nominations that same year. Revist the hit song and a recording of Plain White Ts’ “1, 2, 3, 4” from the Paste archives below.
