The Sea The Sea is an electric-folk band from upstate New York. They’re defined by their infallible vocal harmonies and their unconventional song arrangements. The Sea The Sea is a pop band only in their melodic infectiousness—otherwise they are at their best when subverting conventions.
For being a folk band, acoustic guitar is not the front and center aspect of this group. Keyboards, varied percussions, and dual vocals carry the sound and transform it into something far more modern than it would otherwise be. The guitar playing feels contemporary and highly influenced by modern indie-rock bands. A thread of tradition in still pulled through everything, tying the old to the new.
When multilayered vocal harmonies become a central part of a band, the lyrics have to take on a different shape, a different role, and with The Sea The Sea, they do. They have a wider vision, like the combined wisdom of multiple personalities that blend into the combined chorus of many voices.
