The Smashing Pumpkins have announced more North American shows on their upcoming “Shiny And Oh So Bright” tour.
The band added three additional Canadian dates to the upcoming reunion tour on Wednesday, bringing their tour to London, Ontario on Aug. 9, Calgary, Alberta on Sept. 8 and Edmonton, Alberta on Sept. 9. Tickets for the three shows will go on sale to the general public this Monday, May 14, at 10 a.m. local time via www.smashingpumpkins.com, LiveNation.com and via the Live Nation App. Tickets for the tour’s previously announced dates are on sale now.
The Smashing Pumpkins also announced today that Canadian indie rockers Metric will support them on the tour. The tour starts on July 12, in Glendale, Ariz., and it will feature original band members Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin onstage for the first time in nearly 20 years. The upcoming tour coincides with the 30-year anniversary of the band’s formation and it will highlight the band’s back catalogue from their inception until the year 2000, exclusively featuring Pumpkins songs from that time period, including their breakthrough albums Siamese Dream (1993) and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995).
The band’s reunion was not without controversy, as the band’s original bassist D’arcy Wretzky said Corgan invited, then disinvited her from The Smashing Pumpkins’ reunion. Wretzky didn’t get into specifics of the reasoning, though and simply said, “That is a whole other can of worms and a big, ugly one! Another time.”
Earlier this year, Corgan confirmed that the band were in the studio working on a new album alongside producer Rick Rubin.
