Daily Dose: The Trongone Band, “Blind”

The Richmond-based Trongone Band actually released their debut album Keys to the House in May via Harmonized Records, but the singles keep coming like a leaky faucet you actually don’t want to turn off. Having just finished a run of shows with the rootsy group American Aquarium, the four-piece—led by brothers Andrew and Johnny Trongone—offered a video for their song “Blind.”
In fact, “Blind” is the perfect opening track to introduce The Trongone Band and kick off Keys to the House. The group blends the contemporary jam freak-outs of My Morning Jacket (the comparison is made even more appropriate by guitarist Andrew Trongone’s mane like Jim James’s) with the Muscle Shoals-inspired Leslie speakers and The Band’s narrative storytelling.
In the video for “Blind,” the band plays in a seemingly anonymous alley lined with murals and street art. But with “RVA” taped onto the bass cab, The Trongone Band takes Richmond—and the sweet Southern sounds that reared them—with them wherever they play.
