The Weeknd’s Starboy is Third-Biggest Debut of 2016

Music News The Weeknd

The Weeknd is back on top. The artist’s new album Starboy had an excellent debut, and landed at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. According to Billboard, the album earned 348,000 equivalent album units, which makes the album the third-biggest debut of 2016, trailing only Drake’s Views (1.04 million units) and Beyoncé’s Lemonade (653,000) in the top two spots.

The news comes just after The Weeknd broke a Spotify record for most streams on the service in a single day. Suffice it to say that Starboy is a fairly popular follow-up to The Weeknd’s last album, Beauty Behind the Madness. Beauty Behind the Madness was The Weeknd’s first number-one album, with hits including “Can’t Feel My Face,” “The Hills” and “In the Night.”

You can watch The Weeknd’s short film Mania, which contains six songs from Starboy, here. Be warned: there’s definitely a panther involved.
