This is Lorelei announces new album, shares “Billy Came Back”

This Is Lorelei, the solo effort of Water From Your Eyes guitarist Nate Amos, will return on September 11 with his new album, The Singer In My Band. Amos has been on a roll lately, this being his third LP in three years. It follows 2025’s Holo Boy and 2024’s Box For Buddy, Box For Star, the latter of which has accrued critical acclaim and a star-studded reimagining from Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy, Waxahatchee, and others. The Sings In My Band marks Amos’ first release with Matador Records, the label that Water From Your Eyes is also signed to. 

According to press materials, the album aims to remold fundamental elements of the Great American Songbook into Amos’ idiosyncratic, disarming style. He wrote the record while on the road touring with both of his bands; he calls it the stuff of daydreams, “developed slowly and subconsciously, existing as a sort of intangible thing while looking out the van window.” Its tales feature a cast of all-American characters—Billy, Joey, Genevieve, Sarah, and our old pal Buddy—each an unreliable narrator in their own right, with strange stories that intertwine. 

The album’s lead single, “Billy Came Back,” is a kinetic, twangy fable of middle America with jangly guitars and poker-face lyrics. “Finishing the song was the only way to get it to leave me alone,” Amos says of the track. Alongside it comes a vintage-inspired music video by Alan “Rickman” Official, winding through old country roads and dusty, cramped rooms. Appropriately, Amos will hit the road this summer for a series of dates largely taking place in the American heartland, before finishing up in the UK and a pair of Primavera Sound festivals.
