Titus Andronicus Announce New Album, Release New Track “Number One (In New York)”
Photo by Ray ConcepcionAmerican indie-punk band Titus Andronicus have announced a new album, A Productive Cough, and released a new music video for the album’s lead track, “Number One (In New York).”
A Productive Cough, out on Mar. 2, will be the band’s fifth studio album and their first since their 2015 rock opera, The Most Lamentable Tragedy.
“Number One (In New York)” is a slow, tension-building piano ballad centered around singer-songwriter Patrick Stickles’ unshakeable, vigorous lead vocals. The eight-minute track seems like quite a departure from his previous punk sound, but Stickles claims that it only sounds like a shocking new direction if “you haven’t been paying attention.”
A Productive Cough is billed as a “more spacious approach that pushes Stickles’ soul-baring songwriting to the fore.” Stickles explains, “Titus Andronicus records have always had their fair share of ballads but they were always buried. Now, they are the cornerstones.”
Stickles will soon embark on the first-ever acoustic Titus Andronicus tour, performing alongside pianist Alex Molini. Support on all dates will come from Rick Maguire of Pile.
