Tom Petty’s Pre-Heartbreakers Band, Mudcrutch, Is Putting Out Its Second LP And Going On Tour
Tim Mosenfelder/GettyThe waiting was probably the hardest part for Mudcrutch. But Tom Petty’s old Southern rock band—which formed in 1970 and broke up in 1975—is finally going on tour.
Mudcrutch is releasing its second LP, 2, on May 20 via Reprise Records, before the tour embarks on May 26 in Denver. 2, which contains 11 tracks, was co-produced by Petty, Matt Campbell (Petty’s bandmate in Mudcrutch and the Heartbreakers) and Ryan Ulayte.
Returning to their roots is something of a luxury for Petty, Campbell and Benmont Tench, the three members of Mudcrutch who would go on to find worldwide fame in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Guitarist Tom Leadon and drummer Randall Marsh rejoined their original bandmates to record the band’s first, self-titled LP in 2008, 38 years after its inception.
Tickets for Mudcrutch’s tour go on sale on Friday, Apr. 1 at 10:00 a.m. local time. Check out the full itinerary below.
