Photos by Emilio HerceLast week, TV On The Radio reunited for a show at Webster Hall, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes. “Staring at the Sun” and “Dreams” made the setlist, as did some of the other usual suspects, like “Wolf Like Me” from Return to Cookie Mountain, “Happy Idiot” from Seeds and “Trouble” from Nine Types of Light. The 15-song set came on the heels of a 20th Anniversary Edition re-release of Desperate Youth, which featured five extra songs (two of which were previously unreleased), including “Final Fantasy.” The band will play more anniversary shows in Los Angeles and London, and bandleader Tunde Adebimpe is gearing up to release a solo album in 2025 after signing with Sub Pop.
L’Rain, whose album I Killed Your Dog ranked #7 on our year-end list in 2023, opened the show, playing songs from that LP and her previous one, the very, very good Fatigue. Recently, she was featured on the I Saw the TV Glow soundtrack and on Red Hot’s TRAИƧA, a 46-song, 100-artist compilation assembled to raise trans awareness.
