Hear Twin Peaks Cover Wilco’s “Spiders (Kidsmoke)”

Twin Peaks were one of 17 contributors to Wilco Covered (aka Wilcovered), a collection of Wilco covers released on CD accompanying Uncut’s November issue, and the Chicago rockers have now digitally released their rendition of A Ghost Is Born standout “Spiders (Kidsmoke).”
Clay Frankel and co. make “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” their own on Wilcovered’s last track, throttling the song’s motorik beat back a tad, burning off some of its nervous energy and letting the whole thing breathe in between its explosive guitar interludes. It’s easy to imagine the Twin Peaks dudes going absolutely nuts with this one live.
Other acts featured on Wilcovered include Sharon Van Etten (“Radio Cure”), Low (“War On War”), Kurt Vile (“Passenger Side”), Courtney Barnett (“Dawned On Me”), Whitney (“Far Far Away”), Parquet Courts (“I Got Drugs (At The End Of The Century)”) and Cate Le Bon (“Company In My Back”)—safe to say Wilco’s tunes are in good hands here.
Twin Peaks released their fourth album Lookout Low in September—you can hear it right here. The band also put out a standalone single recorded during the Lookout Low sessions, “Our World,” on Halloween. Wilco, meanwhile, released their latest album in October, as well: the acclaimed Ode to Joy.
Twin Peaks’ U.S. tour continues tonight with a sold-out show at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. Ditto Wilco, currently touring the States ahead of mid-December’s Winterlude, the band’s hometown holiday residency.
