Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club are gearing up for the release of their fourth studio album False Alarm, and the band have released their latest track “Once” before the album’s release.
Filled with synths, “Once” delves into online identities and how modern society defines itself by online fame. Frontman Alex Trimble’s falsetto fits perfectly with the nuances of disco-pop and the song is fitting of the evolution of the band from their indie-rock early days.
“The phrase ‘once in a lifetime’ came out in conversation and I started questioning what does that mean anymore?” Trimble said in a statement. “When everything is captured on a camera or viewed through a screen, and if you can watch it a million times over, is it once in a lifetime? … There’s also this idea that you are a product, everyone’s building their brand.”
The track is the fourth single from the band’s forthcoming album False Alarm, which is set for release June 21 via PIAS Recordings. Prior to “Once,” the band released “Talk,” “Satellite” and “Dirty Air.” Similar to “Once,” the other three singles have a heavy emphasis on synths and disco-pop.
In addition to their new single, Two Door Cinema Club also delivered a live cover of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on Tuesday.
