Vampire Weekend’s Jonah Hill-Directed “Sunflower” Video Features Cameos by Jerry Seinfeld, Fab 5 Freddy

Vampire Weekend’s “Sunflower” video is here, and it’s quite possibly the most New York piece of content we’ve gotten all year. The video is directed by Jonah Hill and boasts cameo appearances by Steve Lacy, who features on the song, comedian Jerry Seinfeld, and graffiti artist and hip-hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy. Fans have been speculating about the collaboration ever since frontman Ezra Koenig, Lacy and Hill were spotted filming in Zabar’s, the iconic Upper West Side deli that appears in the video.

“Sunflower” is one half of the second pair of songs that Vampire Weekend have put out in anticipation of their fourth studio album Father of the Bride, the other being “Big Blue.” They previously released the songs “Harmony Hall” and “2021.” The new album arrives on May 3, and features collaborations with Lacy, David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors, Danielle Haim, Jenny Lewis and former Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij.

The video finds Jonah Hill continuing to explore his talents as a director after the release of his passion project mid90s last year. Lacy is fresh off his album cycle as the guitarist for The Internet and has been teasing the release of his debut solo album on Instagram since the beginning of this year. He also recently appeared as a producer and vocalist on Solange’s When I Get Home.

Vampire Weekend are following the release of their album by setting out on an arena tour starting in June. The run will take them through Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and Red Rocks Amphitheater, along with several high-profile festival appearances.
