Velvet Starlings Release “H.G. Wells”

Following the release of lead single “Bullfight,” LA-based quartet Velvet Starlings are back with the latest offering off their new LP Pacific Standard Time. Out August 11, the record is filled to the brim with meaning and challenge. “H.G. Wells” is a punky, in-your-face track named after one of the seminal English science-fiction writers of the last two centuries. Bandleader Christian Gisborne explains cheekily of the band’s creative philosophy: “The goal of Velvet Starlings isn’t even for people to like it—it’s for people to hear it. I’d rather listen to something objectively bad than something that doesn’t make me feel anything.”

Well on theme, the accompanying video sees Gisborne travel back in time to kill a past self—as the very song the video is set to has caused mass “psychic warfare.” It’s dystopian and funny, stark and vibrant. Check it out here.
