Vinyl Me, Please Announces Miles Davis: The Electric Years Boxed Set

Vinyl Me, Please, one of the finest purveyors of vinyl reissues in operation today, has announced the latest entry in their acclaimed Anthology series: Miles Davis: The Electric Years. In collaboration with the Miles Davis Estate and Sony Music Entertainment’s Legacy Recordings, the 11 LP set brings together some of the most explosive work of Davis’s legendary career. Spanning from 1969 to 1974, the collection includes seven brilliant and challenging albums, including Bitches Brew, A Tribute To Jack Johnson, On The Corner, Big Fun, Get Up With It, Live-Evil and In A Silent Way.

It’s not quite everything from this fertile period as it does skip over equally funk and psychedelic rock-fueled releases like Agharta, Pangaea and the two live recordings Davis released in 1973. But as an overview, it hits all the highlights that will hopefully inspire deeper exploration by anyone unfamiliar with these records or the trumpeter’s vast discography.

According to the announcement from VMP, the new pressings are all-analog transfers direct from the original master tapes overseen by Sterling Sound’s Ryan Smith and Steve Berkowitz. Also included is a booklet featuring notes on the albums written by critic Ben Ratliff. The first edition of this set will be limited to 2,000 copies.

Pre-orders for Miles Davis: The Electric Years are already open with VMP Members getting a special discounted price. All copies of the set will be shipped in the fall.
