Weezer have finally announced the release date for their forthcoming The Black Album, set for March 1, 2019, via Atlantic. With the announcement came the second single from the album, “Zombie Bastards.”
The Black Album is the band’s 12th studio album and was produced by Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio. It marks the first time that a Weezer album has been written entirely on piano by frontman Rivers Cuomo and has been long-awaited after literally years of teasing its arrival. Check out the album art below.
“Zombie Bastards” is, instrumentally, pretty upbeat and sunshine-y, considering what Cuomo is singing about. On its surface, the track seems to be about surviving the zombie apocalypse with the power of music. There’s probably a deeper meaning in there on refusing to accept the depraved, mindless society one might consider life in the 21st century is plagued with, but you can decipher that for yourself.
The latest release follows the disco-fied “Can’t Knock The Hustle,” released last month with a Pete Wentz-starring music video. Following the album’s release, the band will embark on a North American tour spanning March and April before heading overseas in June.
