Samira Winter—who performs under the moniker Winter—has announced her new album, Adult Romantix, dropping August 22 via Winspear. Along with the announcement comes the release of lead single “Just Like A Flower.” Adult Romantix, produced with longtime collaborator JooJoo Ashworth, will be Winter’s first album with Winspear and is her follow-up to 2022’s What Kind of Blue Are You?
In a statement, Winter shares that Adult Romantix is “a tunnel of summers and memories,” an ode to her decade entrenched in the LA music scene. Single “Just Like A Flower” creates that rose-colored haze that comes with cycling through your memories. The unassuming, heavily reverbed opening (released as its own, separate song) kicks into a Foo Fighters-meets-Wishy aughts-inspired rocker. Winter’s wispy vocals contrast against the track’s cymbal-heavy drum passages and spiky guitars, creating a nostalgia-heavy sound that could easily serve as your MySpace profile song.
“Just Like A Flower” was inspired by “summer nights when I’d walk back from a local show with a sense of wonder and enchantment, only to lie down on my bed and replay everything that happened in my head like a movie.” The corresponding video takes this further, using lo-res, grainy camcorder clips and a purple-blue color grading to give the song an even dreamier aura.
