Watch Young the Giant’s Trippy, Rain-Filled Video for “Heat of the Summer”

Still riding the high of their 2018 album Mirror Master, Young the Giant have released a video for the album’s latest single “Heat of the Summer.”

Directed by Kyle Sauer, the video features frontman Sameer Gadhia thwarted by his own little rain cloud as he attempts to fight the bad-weather blues and enjoy the summer. Whether the rain is melting his ice cream or ruining his check from a restaurant, Gadhia can’t seem to catch a break. As the song builds to its final chorus, Gadhia seemingly fights off the cloud (or gets sucked into it?) and ends up partying in a colorful haze with all of the video’s characters as he sings: “Feel like it’s been forever/ Since I had my shit together / I just do what I wanna / In the heat of the summer.” The video also features some trippy animation, making it as artful as it is fun.

The track is featured on Young the Giant’s fourth studio album Mirror Master, and is the latest of a slew of singles from the release. Gadhia and company are currently on a co-headlining tour with Fitz and the Tantrums, which began June 12 at Red Rocks in Colorado and is set to end Aug. 16 in Las Vegas. The tour also features supporting acts COIN and Alice Merton.
