NBC “Today” Host Savannah Guthrie is Skipping Rio Because She’s Pregnant

On Tuesday, Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s “Today” Show, announced on air that she would not be attending the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics because she’s pregnant and fears the effects of Zika virus on her unborn child.

Zika is tied to thousands of cases of birth defects in Brazil. The WHO has warned that “pregnant women should not travel to areas with ongoing Zika virus transmission,” which includes Rio de Janeiro.

NBC is the rights holder to broadcast the Rio Olympics in the U.S.
