Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Many More to Host Telethon to Benefit the ACLU

A slew of notable celebrities including Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and Amy Poehler, are set to appear on a telethon to support the ACLU. The telethon, “Stand for Rights: A Benefit for the ACLU,” will stream live on March 31 via the Facebook pages for Stand for Rights 2017, The Huffington Post and Funny or Die. Funny or Die will also be producing original videos to stream during the three-hour-long event.

The ACLU advocates for human rights by working directly with our courts, legislatures and communities, and needless to say, they’ve been working overtime since the beginning of the Trump administration. The headline across their website right now? “He discriminated: We sued.” ACLU executive director Anthony D. Romero said in a statement:

Our work in the courts is essential right now to hold off the worst of the abuses. But it is also the collective will and tireless actions of ‘we the people’ that serve as a bulwark against unconstitutional and wrong-headed policies and executive orders. By supporting our work through this telethon, we can fight even harder to defend the rights guaranteed by our Constitution.

Other notable actors involved in the telethon include Jon Hamm, Tracy Morgan, Padma Lakshmi, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, Uzo Aduba, Josh Charles, Zosia Mamet and Ike Barinholtz. In the coming days, more celebrities are expected to join.
