Anthony Weiner is Now in a Cybersex Addiction Rehab Clinic

A few days after potentially costing Hillary Clinton the presidential election, disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner—husband to Huma Abedin, one of Clinton’s top staffers—has checked into an “in-patient addiction treatment facility,” according to the New York Post.

Per The Post, the center has a cybersex counseling program, and is separated by gender. Prior to heading there, Weiner played a role in triggering FBI director James Comey’s “re-opening” of the Clinton email investigation when emails that may be pertinent were discovered on the device he shared with Abedin.

There are a few possible reactions to this news, and in the past 60 seconds since reading the story, I think I’ve had them all. Here are a few:

1. Okay, good. On some level, I feel bad for Anthony Weiner, because he’s clearly a sick man and he needs help, and mocking or stigmatizing people with sexual addiction problems is both cruel and unhelpful. We should have empathy for people like Weiner, because without broad societal empathy, real, lasting rehabilitation is impossible.
