Golden State Warriors, with No Invite from Trump, Meet with Obama Instead

Before their game against the Wizards on Thursday, the Golden State Warriors took the time to meet Barack Obama. According to Logan Murdock of The Mercury News, the full roster of players (other than Jonas Jerebko) met with the 44th President for about an hour. Guard Stephen Curry said he had “no idea” how the meeting came about.

The visit was documented with a since-deleted post on the team official’s Instagram. When asked about the event, head coach Steve Kerr told The Mercury News, “That’s private. Appreciate the question. Doesn’t mean I have to answer it.”

Forward Draymond Green was likewise tight-lipped, saying, “It was good. Private team meeting and team event.”

Traditionally, the championship teams visit the White House while they’re in Washington, D.C. Instead, some Warriors were present for the unveiling of the after-school facility The Durant Center (financed by forward Kevin Durant). Curry attended a screening of the documentary Emanuel, which he produced, at Howard University.

The team didn’t necessarily skip out just to avoid eating lukewarm fast food. After winning the title last season, they decided not to attend due to Donald Trump’s hateful rhetoric, The Mercury News reports. Curry said that no matter how the rest of the Warriors felt, he wouldn’t make a White House visit, and Trump responded by rescinding the team invitation. The team opted to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture while in D.C. after picking up the 2017 title.
