Wendell Pierce (Bunk Moreland from The Wire) Arrested for Assaulting Female Bernie Sanders Supporter
Per TMZ, Wendell Pierce—who starred in HBO’s The Wire and Treme—was arrested this past weekend in Atlanta for physically assaulting a man and woman after a political disagreement.
The details of the encounter come from sources at Loews Hotel, who told TMZ that Pierce, who supports Hillary Clinton, was involved in a late-night political conversation with a couple that turned contentious when the woman declared her support for Bernie Sanders. Pierce, apparently furious, pushed the boyfriend and then grabbed the woman’s hair before “smacking” her in the head. The couple retreated to their room, where they called hotel security and started the process that ended in Pierce’s arrest. He was booked for battery and released after posting bail.
A local TV station received a statement from police, who said:
“The incident did not rise to anything significant so no special notification was made. It was treated like any other arrest a patrol officer conducts. Mr. Pierce made no indication he was famous nor did the officer inquire.”
