The “I” word is coming up more and more after this week’s Michael Cohen news, although some Democrats would like to keep it off the radar. The Independent reports that Congressman Al Green, a known opponent of Trump, is looking to file articles of impeachment once again, saying, “I think the president has to realize that the countdown to impeachment has already started. He, at some point, will have to choose if he will face impeachment or if he will resign. It will be his choice. The congress will have no choice but to act.”

Green seems to be the only Democrat interested in taking this action right now, though. With midterms coming up, the threat of an impending Trump impeachment could rile up his base and bring more Republican voters to the polls, with more extreme intentions. Knowing this, Republicans are embracing the threat of losing the White House, and using it as a rallying cry. Looking back at the 2016 election, this has proven to be effective, especially for Republicans.

The Independent cites an interview with Rudy Giuliani as well, and although most of his time is spent simply denying the allegations against Trump, he makes sure to add that the American people would “revolt” in the event of a Trump impeachment.
