Senators Caught on Hot Mic: Trump “Crazy,” Texas House Rep “So Unattractive It’s Unbelievable”

The Washington Post detailed a rather provocative private conversation between Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) and Susan Collins (R-ME) that happened to be caught on a hot mic following a subcommittee hearing on Tuesday morning. Collins, the committee chair, failed to switch off her microphone before the conversation began, and the whole thing soon became public. She and Reed began by criticizing the Office of Management and Budget. Via WaPo:

“I swear, [the Office of Management and Budget] just went through and whenever there was ‘grant,’ they just X it out,” Collins says. “With no measurement, no thinking about it, no metrics, no nothing. It’s just incredibly irresponsible.”

“Yes,” Reed replies. “I think — I think he’s crazy,” apparently referring to the president. “I mean, I don’t say that lightly and as a kind of a goofy guy.”

“I’m worried,” Collins replies.

“Oof,” Reed continues.

Then things got personal, with Collins bringing up Blake Farenthold (R-TX), who said on a radio interview that if Collins were a man, he’d challenge her to a duel for her failure to support Trump’s healthcare efforts.

“Did you see the one who challenged me to a duel?” Collins asks.

“I know,” Reed replies. “Trust me. Do you know why he challenged you to a duel? ‘Cause you could beat the s— out of him.”
