Trump’s Daily Media Complaint: “We’re Getting ****ing Killed”

A new report from Politico outlines exactly how frustrated Donald Trump has become with media coverage behind closed doors as the impeachment drama intensifies. The money quote:

“We’re getting fucking killed,” Trump often gripes — a complaint about media coverage that is escalating in volume and frequency amid the impeachment probe, according to a Republican close to the White House. “He does make that comment literally every day.”

Predictably, sources close to the president say he’s “ravenously consuming” any report on his Ukraine dealings, impeachment, or anything closely related, and scrutinizing GOP congressional figures “for any sign of hesitation or perceived disloyalty.”

Nor does he think it merits coverage, despite the fact that a president facing the specter of impeachment is pretty damn newsworthy. For Trump, that’s the downside of his modus operandi—the ceaseless media coverage gave him all kinds of free publicity and helped facilitate his election, but it’s not a faucet you can just turn off at will when the coverage starts to become less helpful.

However, he still adores Fox News, and has become increasingly fond of Tucker Carlson:

To get news on impeachment, Trump often relies on his favorite Fox shows: Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, “Fox and Friends,” Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham and Jeanine Pirro, because he thinks they provide an alternative to the narrative many journalists in the more down-the-middle press are giving. He has grown especially enamored lately with Carlson’s show, according to a Republican close to the White House, though he has complained publicly about some of the more critical news coverage on Fox.

“He likes all these guys on Hannity who are beating the shit out of the left,” added another of Politico’s sources.

As usual, he’ll only consume favorable media, and his tweets are often echoes of what he sees on TV. However, the bad stuff still reaches his ears, and he’s become less and less tolerant of any dissent as impeachment begins to look more and more realistic. Such are the downfalls of being the TV President.
