Kathy Griffin Fired by CNN, Apologizes for Violent Anti-Trump Photos
Photos by Jason Kempin/Getty, Nicholas Hunt/GettyIn a scramble for national relevance Kathy Griffin posted a now infamous photo and video of her holding a mock, bloodied, severed head of Donald Trump.
Backlash from all sides was swift, criticizing Griffin for appearing in the gory photographs, taken by provocative photographer Tyler Shields.
Griffin has hosted CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve coverage alongside Anderson Cooper for the past decade, but the comedian has now been fired by the network after the videos and photos were widely spread across social media.
“CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program,” the network said in a statement.
Cooper himself said Tuesday he was “appalled” by the “clearly disgusting” photo. Chelsea Clinton called it “vile and wrong,” adding the obvious caveat that apparently everyone knew but Griffin: “It is never funny to joke about killing a president.”
As usual, President Trump tweeted out his two cents:
Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!
