Even Televangelist Pat Robertson Thinks Alabama’s New Abortion Law Is “Ill-Considered”

Even televangelist and pro-life supporter Pat Robertson has stated his disappointment in Alabama’s recently signed near-total ban on abortion. The highly restrictive policy is expected to face legal challenges in the near future.

During an appearance on The 700 Club Wednesday, Robertson pushed back on the ban, stating, “I think Alabama has gone too far,” and calling it “an extreme law.”

“They want to challenge Roe v. Wade, but my humble view is that this is not the case that we want to bring to the Supreme Court because I think this will lose,” Robertson added, citing the bill’s omission to protect abortions in the case of incest or rape. Under this law, those who perform an abortion in Alabama could be sentenced to up to 99 years in prison. Attempting an abortion would carry an up-to-10-year sentence.

“I think it’s ill-considered,” Robertson stated during a broadcast on CBN. “But the Alabama case, God bless them. They’re trying to do something but I don’t think that’s the case, and I don’t want to bring it to the Supreme Court,” he concluded.

Supporters of the law claim that its intention is to challenge the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling. Legal experts, however, doubt that the Supreme Court would reverse the decision because of Alabama’s abortion restrictions.
