There are few absolutes in life, but this we know for sure: no one is in touch with the Christmas Spirit like German football fans.
To wit: Borussia Dortmund players paid a visit to the fans in the Yellow Wall at Westfalenstadion at the end of their game on Sunday. It’s their usual custom for home games— Jürgen Klopp in particular made sure players made themselves available for it— but their 4-1 dismantling of Eintracht Frankfurt deserved a curtain call.
When the players lined up in front of the south terrace, Dortmund fans offered the players a special holiday treat for their win— a rousing rendition of “Jingle Bells.”
You wouldn’t think that “Jingle Bells,” or any Christmas carol, could work with 25,000 choristers and a vague sense of menace. And yet here we are.
