Everyone Wants to Be Like Carli Lloyd
Photo by Todd Warshaw/GettyWith several fresh faces on the field and on the bench trying to make the Olympic squad, the US Women’s National Team beat Ireland handily this past Saturday, 5-0.
Kicking off 2016 with a friendly game before CONCACAF Olympic Qualifiers in February, Carli Lloyd picked up just where she left off in a remarkable 2015 that was capped with FIFA’s World Player of the Year. The newly named co-captain (along with Becky Sauerbrunn), scored a hat trick in the first twenty-eight minutes of the game. The sixth of her career.
Add it all up, World Cup Golden Ball winner, FIFA POTY, signature Nike boots, hat trick after hat trick. It raises the question: who doesn’t want to be like Carli?
Samantha Mewis and Stephanie McCaffrey are two of the newbies on the team taking note of Carli’s every move getting up close and personal, and we do mean close. The pair, both from Boston, had a little fun with the veteran in training camp making this “Do What Carli Does” video.
Maybe we can spin this off into this generation’s “Be Like Mike” campaign starring Carli? Your move Gatorade.
