On Thursday night, Newell’s Old Boys striker Ignaccio Scocco pulled off a bit of skill worthy of Ronaldhino circa 2005. Although his club eventually lost the match, the 29-year-old helped remind the defenders of the world that falling victim to a nutmeg is the absolute worst.
Late in the first half, Scocco received the ball with his back to goal and Club Social Defensa y Justicia defender Damian Martinez hot on his heels. DyJ striker Brian Fernandez (reminding us all why attackers don’t play defense) went in for the double team in an attempt to win the ball off the seemingly overwhelmed Scocco. Instead, a deft touch from the former Sunderland striker saw Scocco scamper away with the ball while Martinez pondered extra defensive practice in the coming week.
