Robbie Keane’s L1+▲ Pass for Landon Donovan’s Hat-Trick

Landon Donovan postponed his retirement for another week by scoring a brilliant hat-trick for LA Galaxy in the team’s 5-0 second-leg playoff win over RSL on Sunday.

Donovan’s third was a first-time side-foot finish from what ESPN color commentator Taylor Twellam—ever aware of Major League Soccer’s sponsorship deal with EA Sports—called an “L1 plus triangle” pass from Robbie Keane, a reference to buttons you press in FIFA ‘15 to pull off a lob.’

Unfortunately for RSL, whoever was controlling their midfielders and defenders didn’t know which one the tackle button was.
