Manager Subs Himself Into Match, Puts Team on His Back
Disappointed by his team’s first half performance against rival Hampton and Richmond, player/manager Mark Bentley of Grays Athletic took matters into his own hands.
Bentley subbed himself into the match as a midfielder with his team down 2-1 and scored an equalizer just minutes later. But he didn’t stop there. After their keeper was sent off, Bentley took the gloves and saved the ensuing penalty.
Grays winger Joao Carlos eventually scored a match-winner, but there’s no debate about who the Man of the Match was.
