Maurice Edu Wears Microphone During Philadelphia Union Match
On Saturday, September 13, the Philadelphia Union played host to the New York Red Bulls, with the sides ultimately splitting the points in a 2-2 draw. During the match, Union midfielder (and deputy captain) Maurice Edu wore a microphone to record the sounds of his game … and sounds there were.
Watching that video, you get a sense of why central midfielders are occasionally referred to as “midfield generals.” While it is funny to hear him mock his teammates for forgetting they’re playing in MLS as opposed to the NFL, it’s genuinely fascinating to see how he controls the game and commands the team from within the game. He also appears to be on friendly terms with both Tim Cahill and Thierry Henry, which is probably always a good thing to have on a resume.
