Tiki-Taka Soccer, as Brought to You by Swiss Nine-Year-Olds

Basler Sportsclub Old Boys, more commonly known as Old Boys, is a Swiss soccer club that was founded in 1894. While the senior team is currently mired in mid-table mediocrity in the Swiss Third Division, the club’s academy system seems to be doing just fine.

In the above video, the Old Boys Under-9 youth team savages German club FC Bergalingen with a passing sequence more befitting Barcelona than a recreation gymnasium. The move begins when an Old Boys player intercepts an opposition clearance at midfield, and six passes later (every member of the team touched the ball) ends with a lovely, left-footed blast to the bottom corner of the goal. If this is what’s happening in the youth ranks in Switzerland, I’m very much looking forward to these players taking the pitch for their national team at the 2026 World Cup.
