Watch: Sebastian Giovinco’s Incredible Golazo Fires Toronto FC Into The MLS Playoffs

Sebastian Giovinco has had a bit of a week.

On Tuesday, Giovinco helped Italy rally from a goal down late in their Euro 2016 Qualifying match against Norway and walked away with a 2-1 win. Early (very early) the next morning he got on a plane back to Canada so he could be available for Toronto’s crucial home game against the New York Red Bulls. Tired as Giovinco would presumably be, playoff qualification was on the line and TFC sorely needed him.

His plane landed at 3:45pm local time. From there, Gio ran straight to the stadium to dress for the match. He ended up being named as a substitute and was called on to replace Hérculez Gómez in the 71st minute.

And then, seven minutes after checking in, he scored THAT.

As you might imagine, Soccer Twitter blew up. Plenty of people were hailing the goal as the runaway candidate for Goal Of The Year and Gio the obvious choice for league MVP for the season.

Not to take anything away from an incredible individual achievement, but it’s worth noting that the goal served as the gamewinner in a 2-1 victory of NYRB, and that those three points were enough to lift Toronto into the MLS playoffs for the first time in club history.

You think you’ve had a crazy week.
