Prabal Gurung Debuts Lane Bryant Line Fronted by Plus-Size Supermodel Ashley Graham

As designers continue to struggle to embrace a wide range of women regardless of age, size or race, some are rising above the fray to join the body-positivity movement. The latest designer to get on board is Prabal Gurung, who in Vogue’s latest issue announced a limited-edition 12-piece collaboration with Lane Bryant featuring plus-size supermodel Ashley Graham.

Gurung first got the idea after seeing Lane Bryant’s empowering #ImNoAngel campaign. The designer told Vogue, “At that moment, I knew it made sense to have the conversation with Lane Bryant. Fashion gave me a platform to talk about these things—how was I going to use it?” Gurung’s collection includes a cropped biker jacket, billowy florals and nipped-in waists. The designer has said he is most proud of “a chunky knit, a great trench for layering, and a sexy-yet-sophisticated jumpsuit to go from day to night.” The collection is sexy, flattering and shows that beautiful clothes can exist for women of all sizes.

The collab is headed by Graham, who has modeled for Lane Bryant since she was 13. “I could see there was something in [Gurung’s] eyes—an intention,” she told Vogue. “You could just tell he wanted to change the way people look at beauty.” Graham has been doing plenty of that herself—she was recently honored as Glamour’s Woman of the Year and she has appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated, Vogue and British Vogue. She also has her own Barbie doll, headed up the #ImNoAngel campaign and was recently featured in Christian Siriano’s collaboration with Lane Bryant. Needless to say, she’s a superstar.

Gurung’s line will debut in March in 180 stores and on LaneBryant.com.
