Turn Your Living Space Into a Home-Spa in 4 Steps

Style Lists Beauty

If we could, we’d go to the spa every day. Alas, our lives are not that luxurious.

But that doesn’t mean our bodies and minds have to suffer. You can turn any living space into a home spa with a few inspired touches. Follow our instructions to achieve a relaxing living environment reminiscent of your favorite spa, and everyone will be coming to your house for a relaxing day at the spa, er, we mean, on the couch.

1. Pack the Plants

Research shows that plant emissions lower stress levels and increase productivity, which is probably why the best spa services are the ones outdoors surrounded by lush greenery. Whether you want a few potted succulents or vases full of flowers, be sure to keep some plants alive to ensure your home has a relaxed yet inspired feel.

2. Toss Some Pillows

You can’t have zen without some cushion, so be generous with your accent pillows. Throw as many pillows as you want, on the couch and the floor, to make sure you and your guests are always comfortable. And instill the message even deeper with this pillow that makes it clear.

3. Pick an Appliance

A spa is not complete without a massage, so unless your roommate happens to be a masseuse, you’ll need to have a massager of some sort to ensure you’re always relaxed. In order to not clutter your home (clutter does not inspire calmness), pick one appliance that targets your trouble area. We’re fans of Brookstone’s Foot and Calf Massager, perfect after a long day pounding the pavement or night dancing in heels. For something a little more discreet but cute, opt for the Buzzy Orb Massaging pillow which offers a more gentle massage by vibrating upon touch.

4. Light it Up

Bring the energy down by dimming the lights and lighting candles instead. Go for the lavender scented, as we all know lavender is relaxing. And if you don’t want to play with fire, invest in Pottery Barn’s flameless candles that look and smell like the real thing.
