2017 Met Gala to Honor Comme des Garçons Designer Rei Kawakubo

Style News Met Gala

The theme of the Met Gala is always something to look forward to, and this morning, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced that 2017’s event will honor Comme des Garçons iconic designer Rei Kawakubo. Kawakubo, now 74, will be the second living designer to get a Costume Institute exhibition after Yves Saint Laurent in 1973, already making next year one for the books.

With the party taking place May 1 and the exhibit opening on May 4, the exhibit reportedly features approximately 120 womenswear pieces from Kawakubo, with pieces dating back to the brand’s very first Paris runway show in 1981. We’re swooning. If that’s not enough, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams have been announced as its co-chairs, as well as Apple, Condé Nast, Farfetch, H&M and Maison Valentino as its sponsors.
