Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie to Make Broadway Debut in Kinky Boots

Today, it was announced that Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco will be taking over for Killian Donnelly as the lead character, Charlie Price, in the hit Broadway show Kinky Boots. The show, billed as an “uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family’s struggling shoe factory and looking for a fresh idea,” won six Tony awards in 2013.

“I’m thrilled to be making my Broadway debut with this fantastic company,” Urie said in a statement. “I’m a huge fan of Kinky Boots and musical theatre, and am honored to be joining the cast.”

Kinky Boots boasts an impressive creative team: It was based on a book by Harvey Fierstein, scored by Grammy Award winner Cyndi Lauper and choreographed by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell. The show recently celebrated the fourth anniversary of its Broadway run.

Urie will take the role once Panic! at the Disco wrap up their headlining tour in support of Death of a Bachelor. His Kinky Boots run will be from Friday, May 26 through Aug. 6 at Broadway’s Hirschfeld Theatre. Find out more here and revisit Paste’s 2008 feature on Panic! at the Disco here.
