Dear Evan Hansen, Waitress, Come From Away Coming to Atlanta

Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta announced its 2018/2019 season at the Fox Theatre this morning, and it’s a powerful line-up with three Tony winners for Best Musical, including last year’s winner Dear Evan Hansen.

The season opens with Disney’s Aladdin on Sept. 12-23 and concludes Aug. 6-11, 2019, with 1983 Tony winner Cats. Five other shows are included with the subscription package: School of Rock (Oct. 16-21), Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (Nov. 27-Dec. 2), Waitress (Feb. 5-10), Dear Evan Hansen (April 23-28) and Come From Away (June 25-30). An eighth show, the return of Les Misérables to Atlanta on Feb. 26-March 3, will be ticketed separately.

Here at Paste, we’re particularly excited about the newer Broadway musicals making their debuts in Atlanta. Waitress, based on Adrienne Shelly’s 2007 rom-com of the same name, features music by Sara Bareilles, and the original Broadway cast recording of Dear Evan Hansen debuted at #8 on the Billboard chart. Come From Away tells a different kind of 9/11 story about passengers stranded in a small town in Newfoundland. And School of Rock is based on the Richard Linklater film starring Jack Black. The musical version features a cast of amazing kid musicians.

Renewal sales begin Feb. 15, with new subscriptions starting at $239 available in mid-April. Single tickets typically go on sale eight to 12 weeks before each individual show.

The 2017/2018 season concludes with five more shows at the Fox: Rent (Feb. 20-28), A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder (March 13-18), Stomp (April 6-7), Something Rotten! (April 17-22), Hamilton (May 22-June 10) and The Book of Mormon (July 17-22).
