2017 Tony Awards: Great Comet Leads with 12 Nominations

The Tony Awards nominations are all out now, and the big (potential) winners thus far are Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 (with 12 nominations), a revival of Hello Dolly! that notched 10 nominations and the 9/11-themed Come from Away (with seven nominations).

Great Comet is a sort of loose adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s War & Peace that (per The N.Y. Times) originally started as an off-Broadway show in an 87-seat theatre and now has wound up with more nominations than any other show, also counting Josh Groban among its cast members.

It’s not the sole adaptation in the bunch, as a version of Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day received seven nominations, including one for “Best Musical,” which it will vie for alongside aforementioned productions Great Comet and Come from Away, along with the teen drama Dear Evan Hansen.

The Tony Awards show takes place at 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, June 11, on CBS—Kevin Spacey hosts this year’s events. You can find many more of the nominees below (plus a list of productions organized by nominations), and the full list here.
