Amtrak is Waiving its Pet Fee

Travel News Amtrak

Pack your furry friend’s holiday essentials including their sequined sweaters and plaid bowties. Amtrak will be waiving its regular pet fee for passengers who don’t want to leave their “furever” friend at home between Dec. 9, 2016 and March 31, 2017.

As part of a promotion with Universal Pictures to promote “The Secret Life of Pets,” Amtrak is waiving its usual $25 one-way fee. More than 15,000 pets joined their owners on trains the first year Amtrak expanded its pet program, according to a statement. Dogs and cats up to 20 pounds are allowed on Amtrak trips up to seven hours.

Reservations must be booked between Dec. 6 and Dec. 11, while supplies last and purchased at least three days before travel.

Prizes from the movies will also be available at select stations.

The promotion is valid at 40 Amtrak locations, including New York City, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Baltimore, Cleveland, Seattle, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Miami, Orlando and St. Louis.
