San Fransokyo Square Opens at Disney California Adventure in August

Ever been to Tokyo and San Francisco at the same time? Well, you’ll be able to do that soon, sort of, and in Southern California, of all places, when San Fransokyo Square opens at Disney California Adventure Park next month. The hot new spot based on Big Hero 6 opens on August 31, 2023, inside the newer of the two theme parks at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Disney announced on Instagram last week.

First announced last fall, San Fransokyo Square turns the former Pacific Wharf food court into a newly themed shopping and dining area. Instead of a theme park version of Monterey you’ll now be visiting the futuristic home of the Big Hero 6 superhero team. It’s part San Francisco and part Tokyo, with an iconic landmark of the Golden Gate Bridge with its towers replaced by torii gates. A full rundown of San Fransokyo Square’s new menus can be found at the Disney Eats Foodie Guide, with the first of the new menus rolling out at the Lucky Fortune Cookery on July 19. Other restaurants will include Rita’s Turbine Blenders, Aunt Cass Café, and Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería, with some Pacific Wharf favorites, including Lucky Fortune and the Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, sticking around.

San Fransokyo Square will also be home to meet and greet with two characters from Big Hero 6: the main hero Hiro, and his lovable robot partner Baymax. I don’t know how you feel about meet and greets with theme park characters, but I also don’t think anybody who has ever seen Big Hero 6 could resist giving Baymax a hug. You’ll get your chance when San Fransokyo Square opens at Disney California Adventure on August 31, 2023.
