Jordan Peele’s Us Invades Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights as a Haunted Maze

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios is about to get taken over by its scariest creatures yet: Americans.

Jordan Peele’s Us is the latest horror film to get the Halloween Horror Nights treatment, with a brand new maze coming to Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood this September. In it guests will travel from a Santa Cruz boardwalk funhouse to the underground complex that is the home of The Tethered, no doubt with all the red jumpsuited scare actors Universal could cram into the place jumping out and yelling at them. It’ll build all the way up to the mass uprising at the end of the film—hopefully this will be the first haunted maze to end with a Hands Across America reference.

“It’s very exciting to know that fans of Us will get to experience firsthand the terror of being stalked and tormented by ‘The Tethered’,” Jordan Peele is quoted as saying in Universal’s press release. “It’s been a lifelong ambition of mine to create a monster that would scare people on Halloween, so having ‘The Tethered’ join such esteemed company is a dream come true.”

Here’s a trailer:

This year’s installment of Halloween Horror Nights launches on Friday, Sept. 6, at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, and on Friday, Sept. 13, at Universal Studios Hollywood. It runs on select nights at both parks through Nov. 2, and requires a separate ticket for entrance. In addition to the Us maze, you’ll find mazes based on Stranger Things, Ghostbusters, Creepshow, Killer Klowns from Outer Space and more, along with “scare zones” throughout the park.

As scary as all that sounds, the most frightening part of Halloween Horror Nights will probably be whatever Florida-based Tim Heidecker lookalike Universal finds to play his character in Orlando’s Us maze. That’s now officially what we’re most excited about for 2019’s Halloween Horror Nights. We should be getting a first-person look at all of these mazes in a few weeks; in the meantime, check out what we thought about last year’s Halloween Horror Nights.
