Netflix has confirmed that A Man on the Inside will return for a second season, set to premiere in 2025. Ted Danson will reprise his role as Charles, a retired engineering professor who becomes an undercover detective.
Created by Michael Schur, the mind behind The Good Place and Parks & Recreation, the show debuted in November to positive critical reception. Danson’s character, Charles, takes on an undercover mission at the Pacific View Retirement Residence in San Francisco to solve the mystery of a missing family heirloom. Along the way, he forges new friendships, uncovers secrets, and deepens his relationship with his daughter, Emily (played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis).
In a statement about the renewal, series creator Michael Schur expressed his excitement for the return of the series: “We are thrilled to make another season of A Man on the Inside, starring young up-and-comer Ted Danson,” Schur shared via press release. “From our partners at Netflix and Universal TV to the writers, cast, and crew, it’s a truly exceptional team of talented and lovely people, with one notable exception (young up-and-comer Ted Danson, who’s kind of a nightmare).”
The first season’s main cast included Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Didi, the all-knowing managing director of Pacific View, and Lilah Richcreek Estrada (Chicago Med) as Julie, the private investigator who recruits Charles. Additional cast members included Academy Award nominee Margaret Avery (Better Things), Eugene Cordero (The Good Place), Lori Tan Chinn (Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), and Sally Struthers (All in the Family, Gilmore Girls). It remains unclear which cast members will return for the second season, and a specific premiere date for A Man on the Inside Season 2 has yet to be confirmed.
